Tea Plantations in the Cameron Highlands
Tea Leaves were a well-guarded chinese secret. Only after the British bribed chinese officials in the 18th century with opium the secret about the leaves spread over the whole world. People in India realized that they had the same plants all along, but never thought of using them as tea. Today four different types of tea are produced from the same plant:
- Black Tea (longest fermentation process, hence the bitterness)
- Green Tea (steamed before drying to remove tannines and stop fermentation)
- Red/Yellow Tea (also known as Chinese Tea)
- White Tea (only the youngest leaves, hand-picked)
